Intern Counselling Clinic:

Affordable Counselling

Do you know someone who would from affordable counselling?

Five Star Wellbeing Counselling and mental Health now offers affordable counselling through out Intern Counselling Clinic!

We help those in need, receive support from Masters Students working toward professional counselling certification in Nova Scotia.

Improving Access to Mental Health Care Services

According to a recent Angus Reid poll, 1 in 5 Canadians aged 12 and older report they require help with their mental health. In addition, the Canadian Institute for Health Information indicates that most Canadians must wait weeks, if not months to access mental health counselling in their communities.

Other barriers to mental health include not knowing where to go for help, long wait times, a shortage of mental health professionals, concerns about stigma, and cost of services not covered by private insurance plans.

How We Provide Affordable Counselling

Many Nova Scotian's require access to counselling at affordable rates.

That's why we are partnering with Masters of Counselling training programs like Acadia University, Yorkville University and Athabasca University to provide internships for students in need of supervised counselling placements.

This is a perfect opportunity for people seeking counselling at more affordable counselling rates, while at the same time enabling Masters students to get the practice they need under professional supervision.

Students must receive 400 - 500 hours of direct work with clients. Following their placement and on completion of all program requirements, they are eligible to apply to become Candidates of the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists.

Welcome: Lisa Smith, Counselling Intern January to August, 2024.

After interviewing several students in search of practicum placements, I hired Lisa Smith, a former teacher who has experience in a variety of helping environments, particularly for students and families in need. She will work with youth and adults over the age of 14 in the areas of anxiety, depression, parenting and family counselling. Lisa also has experience working with neurodiverse people.

An approved Supervisor for the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists since 2018, I regularly supervise Therapists Candidates, and will provide supervision, guidance and mentoring for Lisa.
